Why we refuse polyester
23 August 2026

Check the label of the last abaya you bought online. Chances are it reads “100% polyester”. That is the market standard: a plastic fibre, made from oil, that does not breathe.
Polyester traps heat and moisture. Under a full-coverage garment worn all day, discomfort is guaranteed — in summer or in a heated room.
What the generations before us wore
Linen, cotton and wool have clothed Muslims for fourteen centuries. These fibres breathe, absorb moisture, improve with age. Their only flaw, in the industry’s eyes: they cost more than plastic.
At Libasoun, every piece is cut from one of these three fibres. No 90% synthetic “silk-touch” blends. No compromise.
The real cost
Yes, a washed-linen abaya costs more than a polyester one. But it lasts for years, softens with every wash, and stays comfortable from fajr to isha. Per day worn, it is the reasonable purchase.
